UPDATE: Since I posted this article I’ve written up a massive guide in which I review every Lego Dimensions year 1 character. That’ll be far more useful to you than this article (which is now out of date), so you can find it by clicking here.
Lego Dimensions is out on 29 September (or 27 September if you live in Americaland). I first reported on it, all full of wonder and excitement, back in April, and since then it’s become much clearer exactly what the game consists of and which separate figures are being released.
That said, Warner has been announcing each new figure and licence in such a bitty, piecemeal fashion that it’s been pretty hard to keep track of absolutely everything due for release.
That’s where yer old man Scullion comes in. Here’s a complete list of everything planned for release for Lego Dimensions to date: what you get in each pack, when it’s released and how much it costs.
First though, a brief recap of everything you need to know:
Lego Dimensions, then. What is it?
Long story short, it’s the 18th entry in Traveller’s Tales’ series of licensed Lego games, and looks set to be the best.
Its daft story is really an excuse to merge characters from umpteen different licenced franchises, bringing the likes of The Simpsons, Ghostbusters, Back To The Future, Doctor Who, Portal 2 and Jurassic World together.
A bit like Disney Infinity then?
Well, sort of. You see, Disney Infinity restricted gameplay to an extent: if you were playing through any of the game’s Playsets (i.e. Story modes), you could only use characters from that particular franchise. Try playing through the Monsters University one as Jack Skellington and you’d be told to get stuffed. Well, you’d just get an error message.
Lego Dimensions won’t have such restrictions: any character can be summoned in any level. If you’re playing through the Lord Of The Rings stage and fancy bringing Wonder Woman and Scooby Doo into the mix, there’s absolutely nothing stopping you.
But it’s just a big story mode with levels in it though? There’s no open-world bits?
No, there are also special Adventure Worlds that offer standalone areas to explore. If you’ve played more recent Lego games like The Lego Movie Video Game and Lego Jurassic World, they’re a bit like the hub sections in those games: large free-roaming areas with little missions and the like dotted around.
You unlock these Adventure Worlds by scanning a character from that particular franchise.
Gah. So I need to buy every single bloody character to unlock every stage?
Not necessarily. To unlock an Adventure World you just have to place any character from that franchise on the base. So, for example, if you want to play the Adventure World for The Simpsons you only really need to buy, say, Krusty the Clown. Buying Bart and scanning him won’t add anything else (other than the ability to play as Bart, obviously).
Right. What do you get with the Starter Pack?
Here’s everything you get:
• The Lego Toy Pad (the big portal thingy), which you obviously have to build yourself. Lego, innit.
• Three figures: Wyldstyle from The Lego Movie, Gandalf from The Lord Of The Rings and Batman from… um, Batman.
• The base game, which includes a Story mode with stages set in many of the licenced worlds. So you can play a Portal level, say, without needing to buy any Portal figures.
• The Batmobile, which you also have to build. Placing it on the base spawns a Batmobile in the game.
• Because of the three figures you get, you also obviously unlock the Adventure Worlds for The Lego Movie, DC Comics and The Lord Of The Rings.
And how about the other packs?
Right then. Here’s where it gets a little bit complicated (and a big bit expensive).
All the additional stuff for Lego Dimensions comes in three different forms: Level Packs, Team Packs and Fun Packs. Here’s how they differ:
• Level Packs (around £29.99) – Contain a brand new level based on a specific franchise, as well as a figure and two vehicles/gadgets from that franchise.
• Team Packs (around £29.99) – Contain two figures from a specific franchise and two vehicles/gadgets from that franchise.
• Fun Packs (around £14.99) – Contain one figure from a specific franchise and one vehicle or gadget from that franchise.
The initial batch of 37(!) packs will be released in five waves between September 2015 and May 2016, just so you aren’t blowing around £600 (yes, I know) all in one go.

No. It’s mental. I’m not keen on dropping that much money without having some sort of indication of its quality.
Then keep your sights on Tired Old Hack for the foreseeable future. I’ve fallen a wee bit for the idea of Lego Dimensions and I plan to collect at least the items listed above, and maybe a few more of the figures too.
As I play through them I’ll be posting video and written reviews of each level pack and character pack so you can see for yourself exactly what you’re getting.
Basically, I’ll be bankrupting myself so you don’t have to.

There are special abilities, such as dig or magic that many characters have and your list works for, however there are a few abilities, such as Uni-Kitty’s, where she is the only character that can break rainbow walls. You’ll have to add her to the list if you want to do “everything”
To be fair though, I didn’t say the list would let you “do everything”. I just said it would let you access every level and Adventure World.
Another good bit to mention: as long as you have the access to said levels, you don’t actually NEED characters in your possession in order to actually DO everything. Most character specific tasks are accompanied by help markers that, once used, spawn purchase points capable of letting a player “hire-a-hero” for a short time (usually 30 seconds) in order to borrow their abilities. This can be taxing on your reserve of studs, however, as most “rentals” cost a minimum of 25,000-50,000 studs. Should you blow that 30 second window without accomplishing your goal, you’re simply out that initial “rental” fee.
So, in short, you can get away with only buying the previously mentioned list of packs and still effectively “do everything.”

Only if you want to 100% the game. My list is only for people who want to see every level and Adventure World, in which case you don’t need Aquaman because Batman already unlocks the DC world.

Hi Dan! It means you need to connect your console online because the game needs to download extra files to make it work. Hope that helps! Chris

Hi. I have purchased a few of the level packs. I have also purchased a memory stick for extra memory but I do not know how to activate the download queue. I have internet etc but still the download queue does not download. The saved games I had played before adding the memory stick will not let me add them to memory stick. Not great with this sort of technology but for being a kids game it is very complicated …. Can you help a demented mother
Playing ghostbusters world..where is containment tank to deposit ghosts?
I have all the level packs and opened all the worlds but on my portal circle for picking the level you want to play there are 2 gaps in the outer circle like there should be other levels to enter (between the mysterious voyage of homer and Follow the lego brick Road) and (Mystery dimension and retro wreckage). Are they just blank or am I missing something?
