The Video Game VHS Preservation Project is an attempt to digitise as many video game VHS tapes as possible for the purposes of preservation. Click here for more information.
The fourth tape in my VHS Preservation Project is the one I’ve watched more than any of the others.
The N64 Video was given away with the first issue of N64 Magazine in the UK, and shows a bunch of gameplay footage as well as Nintendo’s 1996 Shoshinkai (Space World) promotional video.
You also get occasional glimpses of some cancelled N64 games. Watch with my commentary and I’ll point them out.
Note: Because I’ve watched this video far more times than the others, the picture jumps slightly during the opening titles. When the actual gameplay footage starts the jumping won’t be noticeable, and it eventually stops.
I’m currently trying to source a better quality VHS tape, but I’m still confident my upload is the best quality version you’ll find online despite this.
Huge thanks to Future Publishing for allowing me to upload this video.
How to watch
You can watch the video right here:
If you’d like to download an extremely high-quality bitrate version of the file (4.6 GB), I’ll be uploading it to archive.org later tonight.
Commentary
I’ve recorded a commentary track for this video (and will be doing so with all videos in the future), in case you want a bit more context on what you’re seeing. If you’re interested, get stuck in:
If you have VHS tapes you’d like to donate to this project that you can’t already see in the header image on this article, please do send me an email or a DM on Twitter and let me know what you have. I’m based in the UK so I’m mainly looking at doing UK videos for now, but will happily preserve US tapes too as long as you don’t mind the shipping costs.
